UNTING’s Death: An Opportunity for historic redress in the Land of the Hornbills.

In an ironic twist, the death of Dublin Unting Inggot, the Batang Ai assemblyman who succumbed yesterday after being comatose for nine months, has provided an opening for the redress of an error that owners of Native Customary Rights land among Sarawak’s Dayaks were left to rue since May 2000.

The death of Unting, which is from BN component Parti Rakyat Sarawak, paves the way for a by-election in this state seat in the Sarawak interior which is peopled mainly by the Iban, the majority group in the ethnic mosaic called the Dayak.

In recent years, the Iban, in areas where they are dominant, have been in dispute with logging and oil palm plantation companies over NCR land, an issue that flared up in Sarawak politics in May 2000 when the state assembly passed an amendment to the land code that had the effect of weakening Dayak claims to the NCR land.

PKR is expected to field Nicholas Bawin Anggat, whose unsuccessful exertions in 2005-2007 in registering a successor party to PBDS under the name of the Malaysian Dayak Congress, has inevitably led to membership in PKR.

PKR’s claims to representing Dayak aspirations in Sarawak will be tested in the Batang Ai by-election. To be sure the party had rebounded from the wipeout it suffered in its first foray in the state in the September 2001 elections, to a sole seat win in the May 2006 elections through Dominique Ng in Kuching. Last November Ng was joined in the assembly by Ngemah’s Gabriel Adit, a PBDS leader turned Independent, which brought PKR’s representation to two in the 71-seat assembly.

That number would be up by a digit should PKR’s Bawin come up against Nelson Munjah, the favored candidate of Deputy Chief Minister Alfred Jabu, the main Dayak powerbroker in the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), the dominant party in the Sarawak BN coalition.

Munjah, an Iban district officer in Lubuk Antu, the parliamentary constituency in which Batang Ai is located, is from Jabu’s state ward of Betong. Hence he will be viewed as an outsider, a disadvantage in the parochial politics of Sarawak’s interior. However, if the BN candidate is Naga Anak Alam, secretary to the late Unting and an Iban native of Lubuk Antu, the tussle will be close.

Bawin, 50, an Iban native of Lubuk Antu, would be hard to beat but in this constituency crisscrossed by three rivers on the banks of which are located some 100 Iban longhouses, logistics and a big campaign chest, the BN’s trump card, are decisive factors.

Despite lacking funds and personnel in the May 2006 state election, Bawin, a Mara business studies graduate, contesting under the banner of SNAP (Sarawak National Party), polled a respectable 2,489 votes to Unting’s 3,295.

With the more formidable resources of PKR at his command, Bawin would be a stronger contender in the upcoming by-election than he was in the 2006 poll. More certainly, his years as deputy president of the Council of Dayak Customs and Rights from 1992 to 2005 had gained him eminence in the community as an exponent of Dayak traditions and claims, especially in matters pertaining to NCR land.

His tenure in the Majlis came to an abrupt end after exertions on behalf of his community brought him into dispute with his employer, the Office of the Chief Minister, where the real centre of political gravity in the state lies.

That is why many reckon that reverberations from a PKR victory in Batang Ai will sweep across the political landscape, rendering the next state election, widely expected to be held much earlier than its due date in May 2011, a contest of pivotal importance to Sarawak.-Din Merican

SPRM,KHIR TOYO DAN AHMAD SAID HAMDAN

SKANDAL KEWANGAN 17 JUTA BABITKAN KHIR TOYO

- Harakahdaily

Sivakumar: Police must stop investigations against Committee of Privileges

Perak legislative Speaker V Sivakumar, who was questioned by the police for more than two hours, has called on them to cease all investigations against any member of the assembly over the suspension of BN Menteri Besar Zambry Kadir and six executive councillors.

In a statement issued after meeting four policemen from the Commercial Crimes Investigation Department at his lawyer’s office near in Ipoh, Sivakumar revealed that although he had co-operated, the police may have acted ultra-vires.

“It is my belief that any investigation by the police against any member of this assembly is a violation of existing laws and legal provisions of this country,” Sivakumar said.

According to him, the Legislative Assembly (Privileges) Enactment 1959 and Article 72 of the Federal Constitution gave absolute immunity to the Speaker and the Committee of Special Privileges from any civil or criminal proceedings.

It has been reported in the media that a total of 19 police reports were lodged against Sivakumar, who suspended and barred Zambry and his team from attending assembly sittings for between 12 and 18 months.

    Another institutional failure

Police investigations were opened under Section 124/120B of the Penal Code. The offence under Section 124, which involves compelling an elected representative to refrain from exercising his lawful powers, carries a maximum seven years’ jail with a fine upon conviction.

Meanwhile, legal experts and Pakatan leaders have denounced the police action, saying it was yet another failure by a public institution to stay neutral and above politicking. Even former premier Mahathir Mohamad had scathing words for the onslaught of police reports.

Said Mahathir in his blog www.chedet.com: “If the decision of the Speaker can be considered a crime, then what will happen when the Parliamentary Speaker suspends opposition members for whatever reasons?

“And this happens frequently. Will opposition members lodge police reports? If they can, then can we consider the police to have powers over the Parliamentary Speaker?”

The Bar Council too had issued a statement last week, saying that Sivakumar’s action could not be challenged in the courts.

“Regardless of whether the correct procedure was followed by the Speaker and the Committee of Special Privileges, under Article 72 of the federal constitution their conduct and the validity of their proceedings may nevertheless be outside the jurisdiction of the courts,” said Bar Council president Ambiga Sreenevasan.

Explained human rights lawyer Malik Imtiaz Sarwar: “This incident highlights the separation of powers between the executive and the legislature. While the Menteri Besar may be the single most powerful person in the executive, in the legislature, it is the Speaker who is in charge.”-sk

ANWAR BRING HOPE TO SARAWAK: DAP

Deputy Chairman of DAP Sarawak could not contain his happiness at the impact that was brought by opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to Sarawak political scenario.

"He bring hope, that guy bring hope," Chiu Chiu Sing told Sarawak Update in a telephone interview from Bintulu.

Chiu said the people waited for Anwar at the airport for hours despite the uncompromising weather.

His flight was delayed but yet people continued to wait, nobody leaves the airport although they were not paid to welcome him, Chiu pointed.

He said thousands of people came to listen to Anwar at the function despite the weather problem.

"When he started speaking it was drizzling, people stay to listen to his messages of hope for change. In the middle of the speech it got heavier, but nobody moved, they stayed to listen until Anwar finished his one and half hour speech," Chiu revealed.

Chiu insisted that most of the people who came are not only seeking entertainment or free meals but serious about wanting to know what Anwar is propagating.

"They do not come just to see how this man look like, they want to listen personally what Anwar have to say about change that is steadily taking place in Malaya that should be taking place in Sarawak too," Chiu added.

Chiu, who is one of three member panel of DAP negotiator with PKR, was very happy the meeting with Anwar was fruitful.

"Me, Wong Ho Leng and Chong Siew Chiang managed to meet him and lay a working foundation for us. There will be more meeting in the future and there is still a lot of time because we do not expect the election to be held anytime soon," he said.

Chiu is optimistic that Anwar by virtue of being Sarawak PKR leader will be able to understand the situation on the ground with frequent meeting.

"We are not trying to disturb others or disturb PR arrangement but is trying to service the people because every constituency is important to us," he explained on DAP movement in Dayak majority areas.

Chiu said they did contest in Malays and Dayaks majority area before but the result was not that encouraging.

"The political scenario at that point of time was different," he warned.

Kenyataan Media Berhubung Laporan Polis Ke Atas Gani Patail & Musa Hassan

Logikkah sendiri yang menumbuk mata hingga lebam begini.

Wallahualam.

- MALAYSIAKINI

Anwar Ibrahim in Dewan Rakyat tells of UMNO-BN chicanery and money politics

There are evidence linked to UMNO- Barisan Nasional’s attempts to “bribe and threaten Pakatan assemblypersons” to topple the Pakatan-led state government in Kedah, claimed Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim.

anwar and parliamentSpeaking at a speech on the Royal Address in Parliament today, the PKR de facto leader revealed Kulim assemblyperson Lim Soo Nee was “contacted by a BN agent representing Mahadzir Khalid” (UMNO- BN Kedah chairperson and former menteri besar) a month after March 8 general election. “He had persuaded Lim to defect from Pakatan to BN for RM4 million before it was raised to RM5 million. Secret meetings were also planned between Lim and Mahadzir together with the deputy prime minister (Najib Abdul Razak),” alleged Anwar.

Throughout April, May, June and July last year, Anwar further alleged that Lim was “laden with the offers and persuasion to jump ship”.

What shocked me the most was Lim had reported the matter to the (then) Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) and the agency had agreed to make Lim the ‘bait’ for the next arranged meetings,” claimed Anwar.

Each and every meeting was monitored by the ACA and the highlight of the event was a meeting between Mahadzir and Lim in a hotel in Seberang Jaya end of 2008,” said Anwar, claiming that the event was recorded by a CCTV with the assistance from ACA.

    Anwar stood his ground

But there were no further actions by ACA after that. I was just informed the ACA agent who was in charge of the matter was later replaced with someone else,” he said. The temperature in the House then rose when a Barisan backbencher stood up in protest over the latest allegations.

Puad Zarkashi (UMNO-BN-Batu Pahat) said any meeting could be arranged between anybody and the CCTV recording could not prove anything to show the duo were indeed discussing the alleged matter. “Besides, have you seen the CCTV (recording) or not? Do you know what actually happened?” pressed Puad.

Anwar stood his ground, saying that he has yet to see the recording as it belonged to the ACA (now replaced by MACC) but “was informed by Lim according to the meetings he arranged with ACA”. In his speech, Anwar also alleged that Bakar Arang PKR assemblyperson Tan Wei Xu had once received threats from Mahadzir to lure him to defect to UMNO-BN.

“Tan had told me that he was threatened many times to defect and he got frustrated with Mahadzir for his attempts. So he told Mahadzir to stop such acts. The week after, he received three bullets,” claimed Anwar, while showing the picture of the bullets to the House.

    Enough evidence to prosecute

Anwar, who is also Permatang Pauh MP said the evidence he has provided to the House “is enough for the police to prefer a charge and prosecute”.

Speaking at a press conference after delivering his speech, he said the police and ACA (now Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) have enough time to investigate the “evidence”. “This is enough for me to say to you now, that this is ample incontrovertible evidence to act and prosecute those responsible,” said Anwar. When asked why he had to wait until today to make the revelation, he replied: “We had to wait for the ACA to conclude their investigations”.

“During the last Parliamentary session, I did not have enough information about it. That is why I had to wait until it is complete. This is the earliest I could reveal to you now,” said Anwar, adding that he also asked permission to reveal it from Lim. He further said that the “defection series” had involved a “pattern of kidnappings, threats and bribes that involved UMNO leaders right to the top to the deputy prime minister’s office”,

“The pattern is so serious now. So I think I would advise our friends to record…when they start giving bribes, we have to report,” he said.

On a related matter, Anwar was also asked on the possible fall of Pakatan-led states in Kedah and Selangor through bribery as alleged by popular blogger and editor of Malaysia Today Raja Petra Kamaruddin in his latest blog entry. “I am concerned but I’m not unduly worried because V Arumugam (former Bukit Selambau assemblyperson), Tan and Lim had told me all about the attempts to bribe them,” he explained.

    * Itulah bezanya cara UMNO/BN dan Keadilan. Keadilan guna kewarasan, kesedaran mahu berubah, bersama memperjuangkan hak rakyat. UMNO/BN guna wang, ugutan, paksaan untuk menarik wakil rakyat PR menyebelahi mereka. Golongan yang mementingkan diri sendiri sahaja yang terima tawaran UMNO/BN. Tak tahulah dah berapa banyak laporan polis dibuat ke atas kebejatan, skandal, salahguna kuasa, ugutan dan seumpamanya terhadap pemimpin UMNO/BN. Chegubard melalui blognya menyenaraikan 20 rasuah Khir Toyo tapi SPRM macam tak nampak.

SEJAK BILA UMNO UTAMAKAN PERIHAL MORAL

Satu lagi babak keji muncul buat menyerlah lagi kebejatan amalan politik Malaysia.

Terpancar senyuman sinis mereka lantaran berhasil menempelak pemimpin KeADILan. Namun di benak hati kita, terlontar persoalan.

Apakah benar isu akhlak dan moral utama buat mereka? Jika benar, bagaimana mungkin dilenyapkan bukti berkaitan kes pembunuhan, dipadamkan lapuran siasatan awal dakwaan kes Port Dickson, dilesapkan wang ribuan juta habuan istimewa dari pembelian peralatan senjata?

NUDE PHOTO EXPOSED- ANWAR WANT WONG TO RECONSIDER DICISION.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today asked embattled Selangor state executive councillor Elizabeth Wong to rethink her decision to quit following the circulation of her naked photographs.

“Elizabeth Wong has spoken at length to Azizah and me. We have discussed the issues and we understand her reasons and the decision she has taken,” said Anwar, referring to his wife Datin Seri Wan Azizah Ismail.

“We have asked Eli to go on leave, we will meet her again to discuss,” Anwar told reporters at a press conference here.

He described Wong as a very important figure in the Selangor government with an excellent track record.

“Eli is a very responsible leader, has been with the party since its inception and I appreciate the widespread support for her to stay. We will invite her again and see what is best,” said Anwar.

Anwar said that he had discussed the matter with Pakatan Rakyat leaders including Pas’s Datuk Seri Hadi Awang who had asked for the issue to be resolved by PKR.

The Permatang Pauh MP described the circulation of Wong’s private photographs as part of a bigger conspiracy to destroy PKR.

“I can only use the strongest possible terms to condemn the smear tactics used against her. One can only wonder to what depths the people behind this will stoop to achieve their aims,” he added.

“The last few days must have been trying and stressful for her and her family. We hope the mass media will give her the breathing space she deserves.”

He also took the opportunity to slam Barisan Nasional leaders saying that they have no right to talk about morality.

“Let us hear from Najib first on morality,” said Anwar, referring to the deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Earlier today Wong offered her resignation as state executive councillor and Bukit Lanjan assemblyman, but was asked by Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim to take leave.

Yesterday Selangor Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo asked Wong to resign immediately saying that she was morally unfit to continue as executive councillor or assemblyman. - MalaysianInsider

SIASATAN WAKIL BN BOROS WANG RAKYAT SGOR.

Abdul Khalid dilaporkan berkata, Speaker DUN lalu Tan Sri Onn Ismail yang bukannya seorang wakil rakyat BN sesi lepas turut membelanjakan RM600,000.

YB Bukit teLANJANg - ELIZABETH WONG's NUDE STATEMENT.

Elizabeth Wong, the Selangor exco for tourism, environment and consumer affairs, released the following press statement at 2.45pm today stating that the public distribution of her nude photos was a gross outrage of her modesty. The following is her statement in full.

I was informed on Friday, Feb 13, 2009 by journalists from the Malay Mail that they have in their possession intimate photos of myself and that the newspaper will be publishing a story about these photographs.

I was told that some people are trying to distribute photos/videos showing me asleep in partial nudity and also in intimate positions.

The distribution and publication of these photos/video is a malicious attack on my personality. This constitutes a gross outrage on my modesty, a gross invasion of my privacy, and in particular the sanctity of my personal life. It is being done by unscrupulous persons to embarrass and discredit me?

I am a victim in this incident.I have yesterday lodged a police report in relation to this matter and I will fully cooperate with the police in their investigation. I will therefore not speculate publicly about those responsible for this gross invasion of my privacy.

I have received a lot of support from my supporters, friends, colleagues and members of my constituency. I wish to thank them for their concern, support and encouragement. My family members are standing behind me. I would like to appeal to the media to give me and my family members some breathing space in this trying time so that I can weather this huge challenge.I will in the meantime continue to carry out my task of serving the people of Selangor faithfully.

5 SEBAB MENGAPA PRK 2 BUKIT LAMBAT

Jumping Frogs, Position of Sarawak BN

We are talking about betrayal. It is no small matter!

We have seen the BN politicians of Sarawak applauding the political-power robbery in Perak, endorsing the most dirty and undemocratic move orchestrated by the Deputy Prime Minister against the mandate of Perakians, robbing the Government from the Pakatan Rakyat which was formed after the March 8 2008 State election in Perak.

These Sarawak BN politicians never felt ashamed of what their political partners in Perak and Putrajaya had done. They were even proud of it.

What had the Sarawak BN said about political frogs? The 3 paragraphs below are reproduced from the 13th May 2008 Hansard, part of the speech delivered by Abang Jo, the Minister of Housing, in the Dewan Undangan Negeri Sarawak:

Oleh itu, leaders who have been given mandate by his followers through election based on the organisation’s shared platform cannot change positions because he is morally and ethically required to perform based on this shared political platform when he was given the mandate.”

Why then the inconsistencies in the action of the Sarawak BN to endorse Najib’s action? And to confer on him the honorarium of Datuk Pattinggi too right after the power grab in Perak?

Abang Jo can be said to be representative of the Sarawak BN. If something should happen to Taib Mahmud, the Chief Minister of Sarawak for over a quarter of century, nobody can discount that Abang Jo may become the Chief Minister and helm the state BN, at least for the transition period, to enable the Dynasty to continue. In that event, it is likely that Abang Jo will have the endorsement and blessing of Putrajaya too.

Many Sarawakians despised the culture of political jumping frogs. The reason is pretty simple. Sarawakians have seen frogs jumping in 1987, during the Ming Court incident, only to see many of these frogs jumping back to the same dirty and contaminated pond of the Sarawak BN some months later.

Sarawakians have also seen the frog-jumping culture at work in neighbouring Sabah which toppled the Pairin Government.

I called this betrayal of the people’s trust, confidence and mandate.

The actions of the DPM in Perak convinced me that he lacks the moral uprightness to lead the nation. He was very high handed just to enable the BN to gain power in state of Perak.

The only morally acceptable thing to do now is to dissolve the State Assembly of Perak and return the mandate to the people. But the BN will not dare. They know that they will suffer more than a backlash from the moral mistake of 4th February 2009 - Wong Ho Leng

    MEMBUJUR LALU MELINTANG PATAH

TERKINI- YB SIVARASA PULA JADI MANGSA DILARANG MASUK SARAWAK

ALLOCATION FOR FLOOD VICTIMS IN SARAWAK- A REALITY CHECK.

    Dr. John Brian Anthony wrote:

On an annual basis the Federal government allocate RM$200 million (Tabung Wang Ihsan) to help families affected by flood. This money is usually requested by the ADUN / MP and submitted to Federal Government on behalf of flood victims in their constituency.

The intention of this article is to alert dayakbaru of the existence of such funds and follow up with your respective ADUN/MP to ensure that affected victims of flood in your area received appropriate assistance to ease their financial burden.

Flood Victim do not know of such allocation

Radio Malaysia in Sarawak - especially the Dayak section usually talks of many trivial things and fail to include this news that there is allocation for the people badly affected by flood. Maybe we cannot blame the Radio team but ADUN/MP has been silence on this scheme to help flood victim.

I would urged the ADUN / MP to do their job properly and earn an honest living from their monthly salary. As the representative of the people - the ADUN need not act like Kings and Princes anymore. Just go down to the ground and do your job. Secure the monetary assistance and ensure that the flood victims get the money - not “politician” pocket.

    Sibu Flood

During the Dayak Symposium (gathering) in Sibu recently, there is water everywhere. I can recalled that the BIG MOUTH SUPP Minister has announced that Sibu has been allocate RM$400million to implement flood mitigation solution. That was almost 2 years ago - the much talk about 9th Malaysia plan and the PM wish to see that money for approved project should be dispensed off as soon as possible.

What happen to the money for flood mitigation project in sibu? The money has not been delivered by Federal or the money is lost to something else. Maybe the BN government is talking about money it does not have - and the people are waiting and suffering in the process.

    Sarawak Trunk Road

The main Sarawak trunk road is in totally bad shape. In the first place - why are roads constructed in Sarawak of such poor quality. Has it to do with insufficient allocation, incompetence contractor, sleeping JKR, corrupted businessman and politician?

In West Malaysia, no matter how heavy and how long the rain lasted you will never see that numbers of pot hole on their trunk road.

The road leading to Durin bridge - used to be good and there is no reason that it is what it is today - a total shame. The construction has been on going for 2 years and look at what type of road we have in that section. Corruption is really bad - it affect Sarawak’s progress and the quality of life of its people.

    The Mukah Junction at Selangau

Those Engineers looking after the project, the JKR that oversee the construction of “it looks like a round about” - nearly 2 years has gone by, the construction over such a small section has not been completed.

Do the BN government really hope to get away with such poor work and irresponsible project implementation.

That make me think that the money allocated for such road construction has not be delivered by Federal Government and if it has the CORRUPTION is Sarawak is very bad that such simple construction could not be completed over such a long time.

It is disgusting to see the state of the truck road. Nobody seemed to be taking interest in the delay - least of all the ADUN/MP of the area. Are their hand being tied down by corruption too?

    Conclusion

We have no other choice but to replace this BN government in Sarawak. They are totally inefficient and tardy in the job of delivering services to the people of Sarawak. It is a fact that most politician are spending too much time making and spinning money for personal gain rather than focusing on servicing Sarawak.

We must stop such low functioning government. A government made on one or two person decision maker. A BN led government that intimidate the government administration arm, the enforcement arm and those in planning that bow down to one man fancy.

SARAWAK BN STATE GOVERNMENT NEED TO DO A BETTER JOB.

    CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS FOR PARTI KEADILAN

Parti Keadilan is set to amend its party constitution on 28th February this year in view of the need to make it a truly reformist and progressive party.

In the draft constitutional amendments as put forward by the headquarters, Party branches, which were once there but had been abolished, are now once again reintroduced into the structure of the party, though a party division remains its single unit of democratic election and representation.

The Majlis Pimpinan Tertinggi will be renamed as Jawatankuasa Pusat or Central Committee because of the former’s feudal connotation as it was borrowed from UMNO constitution.

The Central Committee will be empowered to select candidates for elections and to appoint senators, Mentris Besars, Chief Ministers, State Executive Members, Councillors and JKKK members.

The National President’s tenure will be limited to not more than 3 terms i.e. 9 years, to count from the date when the amendments take effect.

A proposal from an existing party member will then be necessary for any new applicant to join the party so as to ensure no phantom members in the rank.

The Appeal Board will be changed to the Discipline and Appeal Board to make it more effective in dealing with the situation as it arises.

The appointment and election of office-bearers of the Youth and Wanita wings of the Party were also polished-u p.

All in all, the amendments are positive and democratic in nature but they will be subject to the delegates scrutiny and debate in Alor Setar on 28th Feruary, 2009.

In a debate 10 December 1993, the 96 members who were present in Parliament, including opposition members, unanimously approved a motion censuring Sultan Mahmood of Johor for assaulting Mr. Douglas Gomez on 30 N0vember 1992.

Shahidan Kassim, a Malay legislator of the National Front, said the sultan and his elder son had been implicated in 23 criminal acts in the last two decades, including rape, assault and manslaughter.

Affifuddin Omar, another Malay legislatorin the Front, said it was time to end the "false sense of political power" associated with the sultans.Hereditary rulers must realize that they did not own the country but were "placed on their thrones by the people," he added.

Mr. Mahathir said Malaysians were "fully united" in their stand that the sultans should not interfere in the country's administration. read more......

    LIVING IN THE DARK AGE!

For 45 years meeting has to be done during the day to avoid night time, where the dayak have to sleep early due to no electrical supply.
Funny but true, 45 years of bn rule 70% of dayaks household in rural area have no treated or pipe water supplies and also electrity.

Even from Kuching to Sri Aman 180km has not being fully supplied with electricity. Some have to built own turbin to generate electricity. Dayak BN YBs may be sleeping in the Dewan meetings. Dayaks still depend on rivers, streams for water supplies and most of the waters are polluted due to logging and oil palm estates.

Some longhouse are lucky to get gravity pipelines through NGOs like lion or rotary club, even in areas of Betong also affected. Tell us how Dayak children could excel in studies? Who is responsible? Rakyat? - From Dayaknation.blogspot.

    SARAWAK CONSTITUTIONAL 1966 CRISIS.

Stephen Kalong Ningkan served as first chief minister of Sarawak between July 1963 and September 1966.

Ningkan is probably best known for triggering a constitutional crisis when he refused to vacate his office after being dismissed by the Sarawakian governor. Ningkan, as leader of the Council Negri (the state legislature), had purportedly ceased to command the confidence of the majority of the council. With the backing of the federal government in Kuala Lumpur, the governor proceeded to appoint a new chief minister. Ningkan’s refusal to vacate his office, resulting in a constitutional impasse that was perceived to threaten the fragile unity of Malaysia, aroused a vigorous reaction from the federal government.

Ningkan was sacked as Chief Minister on 17 June 1966. Penghulu Tawi Sli was appointed as Chief Minister. Ningkan brought the Governor to court and subsequently won the case. He was reinstated by the court as Chief Minister.

Unhappy with the court decision, PESAKA, BARJASA and PANAS leaders went to Kuala Lumpur and urged Federal leaders to call for an emergency meeting of Parliament to amend the State Constitution to allow the Governor to call for a Council Negeri meeting. A state of emergency in Sarawak was proclaimed.

Thus Ningkan’s government was dismissed when Council Negeri met on 23 September 1966 when 25 voted for the motion of no confidence on Ningkan as Chief Minister, while six from SNAP and 10 from opposition SUPP refused to attend the meeting. One independent member walked out during the meeting.

The Governor delivered a letter to Ningkan the same evening, calling on him to resign and if he did not resign, the Governor would sack him.

Four persons from PESAKA who were the brains in Ningkan’s dismissal were Thomas Kana (secretary-general), Temenggong Jugah (president), Sidi Munan (secretary of Jugah and secretary of Sarawak Alliance) and Alfred Mason, political secretary to Jugah. SNAP accused them of being used by Rahman and Taib Mahmud to get rid of Ningkan.

    BRAVO BAITULMAL SARAWAK, WELL DONE!

Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak is introducing new measure to help the less fortunate, promising result within two weeks, online aid application, here.

I must say the intro music was exceptionally irritating, and loading seems to take forever. Why not using faster and proven easier application.

Or the website and the effort is another cash cow to put some purple coloured noted from the ever full Baitulmal chest into someone wallet. Baitulmal officers, behind the desk too are only friendly to YB, and treated its client like animal (baka jelu). Yes, like animal (baka jelu). Is it just because people who came over to Baitulmal are presumed needy people who do not deserve respect?

I have heard about ugly experience when dealing with Baitulmal one too many times. Most of the time, cases would only be greased after exposed by the press, why? Is it because Baitulmal money are meant to finance Jais, Minister and Majlis Islam top official fleet of Mercedes?

I personally bring this matter up to a YB friend who rubbished my claim saying that Baitulmal is very effective when dealing with him. Who is he, and who are ordinary client of Baitulmal?

To the arrogant staffs of Baitulmal, remember you are paid using the money generated meant to help the poor, needy and less fortunate.

If that make you proud, and behaving like superstar behind the good name of Baitulmal, please resign.

There are many more deserving people who doing their part voluntarily, and not earning high pay like you, only to treat the less fortunate as if they are animal (baka jelu).

To the efficient staffs who think that they have been doing their very best, keep it up, Allah knew. Your services would be duly rewarded in the next world, given if you are not good at apple polishing to be recognised in this life...

Anyway bravo Baitulmal, congratulation for setting up the online service, you are saving the poor from having to deal with some of your bloody arrogant staffs. From SarawakUpdate.

    ARUMUGAM QUIT, ANOTHER BY-ELECTION.
