The Perak Sultan today officiated the swearing-in of Pangkor MP Zambry Kadir as the new Menteri Besar, amid a huge protest just outside his Palace at the nearby Masjid Ubudiyyah.
Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim condemned the appointment, and the shabby manner in which PAS leader Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin was treated.
The Pakatan Rakyat also maintains that Nizar is the rightful Menteri Besar, and will not recognise Umno-Barisan Nasional’s Zambry.
“We are challenging Zambry’s appointment today as we think it is invalid. We regret and condemn the way Nizar was treated,” said Anwar Ibrahim, who heads the three-member Pakatan coalition of KeADILan, DAP and PAS.
The opposition icon also said that the latest move leaves the Pakatan with no choice, but to ask the court to declare Zambry’s swearing-in as unconstitutional and illegal.
Said Nizar: “There are now two Mentris Besar because I am still the legitimate Mentri Besar. And the exco is still legitimate as well.”
Another Pakatan leader - prominent lawyer Karpal Singh - may separately file a suit against both the Perak Sultan and the BN government on Tuesday.- Suara Keadilan
