Padungan assemblyman, Dominique Ng, who is a PKR advisor, is unperturbed by the claims made by his DAP counterparts.
“The fact is that the party (DAP) has never won the (Padungan) seat,” Ng told reporters before sitting for a press conference with Datuk Seri Chua Jui Meng at PKR Padungan service centre here yesterday.
He said he himself contested in the constituency twice under the DAP ticket. The DAP secretary, Chong Chieng Jen, also did contest but each time, they lost to Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates.
Ng said this when asked for his reaction to state DAP chairman Richard Wong Ho Leng’s comment on July 28 that DAP wanted to contest in Padungan in the coming state election.
Wong was quoted as telling reporters that DAP was interested to contest in the constituency in the belief that they stood a better chance than PKR to retain the seat for Pakatan Rakyat (PR).
The Padungan assemblyman said that the seat negotiation between DAP and PKR was now only at the ‘preliminary stage’. The final decision would be made at the national level.
In this connection, Ng said nobody should talk openly about seat allocation and the prospective candidates.
Ng, meanwhile advised party leaders at divisional and branch levels not to make any comment about seats allocation and prospective candidates now to avoid another mistake like what happened in Batang Ai by-election. He said the Batang Ai by-election had caused both “internal and external” problems to PKR.
“We do not want a repeat of Batang Ai whereby the name of the candidates was widely debated in public prior to nomination day. On nomination day itself a different candidate was chosen and that was causing both internal and external problems for us (PKR),” he said.
