MIRI: The state Pakatan Rakyat (PR) is ready to take on the Barisan Nasional (BN) in straight fights in all 71 constituencies in the next state election due by July next year.
“The state PR is confident of winning and taking over the government,” Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) adviser, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said during a press conference held in the residence of PKR Miri chief, Dr Teo Yu Keng, yesterday.
Sarawak PKR liasion chief Baru Bian, state DAP chairman Wong Ho Leng, Mohamad Sabu from PAS, SNAP president Edwin Dundang Bugak, DAP Miri chairman Fong Pau Teck, and PAS Miri chief Jofri Jeraee were among those who attended the press conference.
Sarawak PR comprises PKR, DAP and PAS plus SNAP.
Anwar said they were convinced that their candidates would do well in the contest against BN.
Regarding his visit here, he said it was to help strengthen the state PR machinery and to boost the morale of the members.
He then called attention to Kelantan, Pulau Pinang and Selangor “where the PR governments have shown their credibility” in tackling issues affecting the people.
In Kelantan which is ruled by PAS led by Tok Guru Nik Aziz, the government has championed the people’s interest, while in Pulau Pinang, Lim Guan Eng has lessened the burden of the people by reducing the rate of water tariff.
In Sarawak, the PR will soon come up with a manifesto for the next state election covering native customary land issues among other things.
About seat allocation, state PKR liaison chief, Baru Bian, said 90 per cent has been resolved.
He said there was still a lot of flexibility and space to resolve the remaining 10 per cent.
“We will work closely with each other to ensure our victory,” he said.
Earlier on, 1,000 or so supporters of PR gather at Miri Airport to welcome Anwar.Malay, Chinese, Orang Ulu and Iban music and dance groups were also present to welcome him.- Borneo Post Online.
